Due to the strike of the employees of the Electricity Department, the power supply system in the district has collapsed. In many villages the supply has stopped for 20 to 30 hours. There is no supply of water either. In view of the strike, the administration has deputed Tehsildar, Naib Tehsildar etc. revenue officers along with officials of PWD, Supply Department and other departments as in-charge at all 33 power sub-stations in the district. Due to lack of technical knowledge of the electricity department, the officers are sitting as mute spectators at the sub-stations.

Electricity is supplied to more than 800 villages from 33 sub-stations including Chandasi, Chakia, Sakaldiha, Baburi, Sayadaraja, Amda, Chahanian, Bilaridih, Alinagar. Vidyut Karmachari Samyukta Sangharsh Samiti had announced a 72-hour strike in support of demands including regularization of contract workers, non-privatisation of electricity department, implementation of old pension to departmental workers. The workers went on strike from 10 pm on Thursday night.

Since then wherever there was a power failure. There was no one to fix it. The officers and employees of the electricity department switched off their phones and went underground. To thwart the strike, the administration appointed Lekhpal, Amin, Tehsildar, Naib Tehsildar and other officers at the sub-centres. Police was also deployed, but due to lack of technical knowledge, these people also remained mute spectators.
